MI2 Announces National Call for Innovations to Benefit the Metals Industry

The Metals Innovation Initiative recently unveiled a nationwide call for an innovation competition, aiming to discover groundbreaking solutions that can bring sustainable benefits to the metals industry, both in Kentucky and on a global scale.

Innovations within various focus areas, including environmental sustainability, end-of-life recycling, advanced manufacturing, workforce development, and other creative metal-related projects, are encouraged for consideration in this Metals Innovation Search. MI2 welcomes innovations from all corners of the country and is open to considering any kind of innovation, ranging from early-stage ideas to fully-fledged revenue-generating companies.

Selected applicants will have the opportunity to present their proposals to a panel on September 5 at the inaugural MI2 Annual Conference, focused this year on “The Factory of the Future,” which will take place in Louisville, Kentucky on Sept. 5-6 at the Marriott East. This event serves as a platform for innovators to pitch their ideas and potentially secure an investment and pilot project with a member company affiliated with MI2.

Vijay Kamineni, the CEO of MI2, expressed tremendous enthusiasm for the launch of the Call for Innovation competition, stating, “Metal technology plays a crucial role in numerous sectors, and we firmly believe that fostering innovation in this field is essential for driving progress and addressing the challenges of our time. This competition will provide a unique opportunity for innovators to showcase their talent and contribute to the advancement of metal technology.”

The competition is open to individuals, research institutions, startups, and established companies alike. This includes individuals and internal teams at Kentucky metals companies—with the competition providing an ideal opportunity for internally developed concepts not immediately likely to move forward inside a single company to be brought to the challenge. The Metals Innovation Search provides a low-risk environment for those frontline employees to bring their innovative ideas to the surface in front of metals industry leaders through a program sponsored by industry leaders.

Ultimately, the goal is to surface great ideas from throughout Kentucky’s innovation ecosystem and from thought leaders nationally who have innovations that might be incorporated in the Kentucky metals industry.

Applications are being accepted from now until August 15. For more information about registration details and submission requirements, interested parties can visit the MI2 Innovation Search website at www.mi2.konexons.com.

With the introduction of the national call for innovations, MI2 is poised to drive substantial progress and propel the metals industry into a future defined by cutting-edge technologies, sustainable practices, and unprecedented growth. The initiative not only presents a remarkable opportunity for innovators but also promises to bolster the economic and technological landscape of Kentucky, positioning it as a key player in the metals industry on a global scale.
